Pattachitra style of painting is one of the oldest and most popular art forms of Odisha. The name Pattachitra has evolved from the Sanskrit words patta, meaning canvas, and chitra, meaning picture. Pattachitra is thus a painting done on canvas, and is manifested by rich colourful application, creative motifs and designs, and portrayal of simple themes, mostly mythological in depiction.
Pattachitra paintings have an uncanny resemblance to the old murals and paintings done on the wall of religious centres in ancient Odisha.
However @sanskriticuttack we started the fabrics painting with skillful pattachitra artist during lockdown as a way of supporting the local artist as well as in support of #makeinindia . Thanks to our esteemed supporters who came forward to supporting the cause.
We don’t support making gods and goddesses in wearable items. We make the designs inspired from nature to dance forms, hasta mudra etc.
Along with the fabrics we are making wall hangings of pattachitra. That’s a story for later.
